Should Spore Be Remastered?

To those of you who have no knowledge of what Spore is about. Spore is basically a simulation game made by the same creators behind the Sims series. It was one of the oddest, yet most well-known PC games of the late 2000s era.

In Spore, you create your own creature out of just pure imagination alone. That’s not the only thing you should do in the game though. In the process of doing that, you help it get through various evolutions; almost similar to Darwinism.

There are at least five evolutions in the game; cell, creature, tribe, civilization, and space. Each one of them has a set goal that the player needs to complete in order for their “Spore creation” to evolve within the next stage. For example: In order for a cell to move on to the creature stage, they have to expand themselves and survive other cells that are trying to survive too. While doing so, the player gives their creation the option of becoming solely a carnivore, a herbivore, or an omnivore.

As much as the idea of developing a player’s creature sounds fun, it can get a bit boring throughout the game; especially when different stages are very lengthy. Additionally, if you don’t pay attention to the individual gameplay rules for each stage, you could end up confused and not be able to progress further into Spore.

Now to answer the question: Should Spore Be Remastered? In my opinion, I do not think that will ever be possible. In fact, the game is better off how it is now. The game doesn’t need any new mechanics or upgraded graphics to make it “better” for new gamers. In addition to that, some gamers nowadays are more interested in fast-paced gameplay compared to slow-paced ones; like Spore, of course.
